Castle Sketch

I was modeling towers in various styles for an upcoming project and, for fun, assembled a few for a quick conceptual elevation.  The disparate architectural influences (SB Castle, Windsor Castle, Minas Tirith, etc.,) make for an unusual amalgam.  Started to paint/texture it, then decided to move on, but thought I'd share it here.

May I inquire as to the nature of the "upcoming project"?

I'm not sure why, but this castle kind of reminds me of the ocean or the sea...I'm picturing it at that Disneyland designed with the New England Main street that was posted maybe a year ago?

Comics, I saw that also and I think it's because the tallest tower resembles a lighthouse... (as opposed to typically crowning a castle with a pointy tower).

It could work for/inspire a more ocean-centric DL-style park (without crossing into a TDS-style park), such as the one you mentioned with a seaport-based entry land.

As for the mysterious Project inquired about above, I'll leave it a surprise for some future post...

I really like this idea for a castle. It's a nice breath of fresh air since when it comes to castles all the ones at the Disney parks come to mind and they have started to lack any originality with each new Magic Kingdom that has been built.

Well, this concept isn't the prettiest castle I've ever seen, but I concur in appreciating the originality. Tokyo and especially Hong Kong were missed opportunities in that regard (cloning the original castle was particularly unfortunate IMO). Consequently I am really looking forward to Shanghai...the exterior will be unique and the fully fleshed out interior will add a new dimension (literally and figuratively) to Disney castle design. Also I am not at all bothered by the fact that the Shanghai castle isn't assigned to a specific princess. Speaking of specific princesses, in the book "Art of Tangled", there is a close up render of the king's castle, which (to my eyes at least) looks tailor made for a theme park. I wouldn't be surprised if the designers specifically contemplated that possibility when designing the building in the film. The style of the Tangled castle ... Austrian or Bavarian, I suppose ... is one that I also find very attractive. I would like nothing better than to see that castle realized in a Disney park some day.

mmm Crap... It would be nice to have an air view to make this castle in 3D for a manga I´m doing right now...

It´s a great model to take be inspired of. Great Work ;)
